Truly sorry, John and others. After reexamining my computers, I discovered that empty folder on my two oldest (running 10) computers. Prior to your post, on two others computers, I ran a program which deleted empty folders. It is possible they had that empty folder, Mindblower!

All my machines, Win 10 and Win 11, have the empty inetpub folder.

Hey Mindblower, I don’t know. Maybe MS is doing an area rollout (I’m in US). In any case, this machine has it and I’m running Win 11 Pro OS build 26100.3775 (April 8, 2025 update).

I checked our computers and that empty folder was not (yet) installed and we are up-to-date (10&11), Mindblower!

Hi Ed,
True. I’m sure MS will have a fix for this in a future update. I’m still unsure why an empty folder (that could be full if IIS was installed) is necessary for security. If it is truly needed, why not use the Temp folder?

Blogger Kevin Beaumont has found that the April update, which introduces the empty “inetpub” folder in the root directory of the C:\ drive, creates a symlink vulnerability…….”

Just like Microsoft to put something out without testing and the exact repercussions of it, wonder if their “do not delete” statement will now change?
