It is basically the same as a TV licence with just a little twist, everybody over the age of 18 and is registered for tax (i.e. working) pays it wether you have a tv or not. It has a maximum annual cost of 1,184 Swedish Kroner – about 117 USD or 88GBP. It is taken out of your pay with your tax deduction. It is adjusted for those on a lower income and those that are over the age of 65 – i.e. a pensionair will pay 1% of their taxable income.

The crunch is that if you are married with three children over the age of 18, living at home and all of the family are working then all of the family are paying for a TV licence.
