Hey Adelaide,

VM’s have their advantages and disadvantages (e.g. limited resources).

Hasleo’s WinToUSB is not free, as opposed to the 2 methods explained in this article: https://davescomputertips.com/how-to-create-a-windows-to-go-bootable-usb-drive/

That said, the one huge advantage WinToUSB has over alternatives is that it can create a WTG bootable USB drive directly from an image backup created by Hasleo Backup Suite.

In the early days, yes, Windows update would occasionally destroy grub, but in the last few years, we’ve experienced no issues on Windows update (other than the occasional self-destructive update of Windows itself, caused by poor QC).

That said, other options include running Windows in a VM on Linux, or Linux in a VM on Windows.

Hasleo’s WinToUSB is a useful tool, though, and particularly handy should the internal drive die at a critical moment. Minor note: WinToUSB is not entirely portable, though, since some drivers might be missing on a different machine.
