The task was to remove all their personal data so that she could either sell them or give at least one of them to a deserving employee. It also came without a charger, but fortunately, I had a compatible one stashed away, which is just as well, because the connector is quite unusual.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/usb-c-pd.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-146434 size-medium\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/usb-c-pd-332x400.jpg\" alt=\"usb-c-pd\" width=\"332\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/usb-c-pd-332x400.jpg 332w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/usb-c-pd-124x150.jpg 124w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/usb-c-pd.jpg 521w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 332px) 100vw, 332px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It booted to Windows 10 and asked for a PIN, but since the lady didn&#8217;t want anything backed up, I prepared a USB pen drive for Windows 11 in <a href=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/how-to-create-bootable-usb-drive-with-rufus\/\">Rufus<\/a>, remembering to bypass all CPU and TPM checks because the Intel M-5Y71 isn&#8217;t compatible.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/lenovo-yoga-3-pro-sys.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-146425\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/lenovo-yoga-3-pro-sys-640x360.jpg\" alt=\"lenovo-yoga-3-pro-sys\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/lenovo-yoga-3-pro-sys-640x360.jpg 640w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/lenovo-yoga-3-pro-sys-350x197.jpg 350w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/lenovo-yoga-3-pro-sys-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/lenovo-yoga-3-pro-sys-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/lenovo-yoga-3-pro-sys.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Everything went well with zero issues. Windows update helped with drivers, and the rest were stored on a separate partition. I don&#8217;t enjoy opening laptops, but fortunately, I have the tools, which in this case required Torx screwdrivers and very tiny ones at that.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/torx-screws.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-146427\" src=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/torx-screws-640x222.jpeg\" alt=\"torx-screws\" width=\"640\" height=\"222\" srcset=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/torx-screws-640x222.jpeg 640w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/torx-screws-350x121.jpeg 350w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/torx-screws-150x52.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/torx-screws-768x266.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/torx-screws.jpeg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The ribbon connectors in laptops are very delicate, but in this case, it was simple to pull the battery connector from the motherboard, and once that was done, I held down the power button for 30 seconds and reconnected the battery. Before closing up the laptop, I booted up, tested the USB ports, and was pleasantly surprised to find that the problem was fixed! I have no idea why this occurs, but one web user with the same problem indicated that static buildup could have been the cause.<\/p>\n<h2>Lenovo Yoga 730-13<\/h2>\n<p><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/lenovo-yoga-730-13.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-146430\" src=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/lenovo-yoga-730-13-640x394.jpg\" alt=\"lenovo-yoga-730-13\" width=\"640\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/lenovo-yoga-730-13-640x394.jpg 640w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/lenovo-yoga-730-13-350x215.jpg 350w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/lenovo-yoga-730-13-150x92.jpg 150w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/lenovo-yoga-730-13-768x472.jpg 768w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/lenovo-yoga-730-13.jpg 777w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This one was a bit more problematic in that it booted to Windows 10, but the touchscreen was flickering badly, which eventually went blank, with no image whatsoever. I then discovered that this is a <a title=\"How To Easily Fix Most Common Windows Issues\" href=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/how-to-easily-fix-most-common-windows-issues\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"123\">common problem<\/a> with some Lenovo laptops, and I would have to open this one as well. I really wanted this to work since it&#8217;s definitely the best out of the two.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/yoga730-13-sys.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-146431\" title=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/yoga730-13-sys-640x360.jpg\" alt=\"yoga730-13-sys\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/yoga730-13-sys-640x360.jpg 640w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/yoga730-13-sys-350x197.jpg 350w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/yoga730-13-sys-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/yoga730-13-sys-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/yoga730-13-sys.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Opening this one was much easier, and I didn&#8217;t even have to use the plectrum to prize off the plastic base. I then used a similar procedure by disconnecting the battery, holding down the power button to drain the power, but this had no effect. Further research revealed that the video cable arrangement has a flaw. I can only assume that on closing the case, the pressure maintains the video connection, but I have warned the lady that it&#8217;s a ghetto fix, but at least it works. In fact, I rebooted it dozens of times, opened and closed the lid numerous times, and it still works as it should.<\/p>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>I had been tempted to take both laptops to a specialist to <a title=\"How To Reinstall Windows 11 &amp; Retain Everything\" href=\"https:\/\/davescomputertips.com\/how-to-reinstall-windows-11-retain-everything\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"122\">repair<\/a>, but in the end I decided to have a go myself, especially since I already had the tools I needed. Naturally, I&#8217;m charging the customer for the work, but it will be significantly less than we would have been charged by a laptop specialist.
